Poland, Agri Technica, and More

My, oh my, what a week! Being an IFYE is like a never ending adventure--you never know what you are going to do next! This week I got to go to Poland, see the BIGGEST farm show in the entire world, and do some other pretty fantastic things too!

I made the trip to Poland with my host father, Bernd, and my host brother, Marcus, and a friend of the family. We traveled there to visit a Germany Military Cemetery where they were holding a memorial for World War II. The ceremony and cemetery were both very interesting and I am happy I got to see them. I am also happy I got to go to Poland! I was amazed at the huge differences you can see the minute you cross the border (and yes, there is a real border to Poland...I had to show my passport for the first time since coming to Europe!). Poland is a poor country, and it was eye opening to see it first hand. I am thankful for the experience.

I also had the opportunity to visit Agri Technica in Hannover. This literally is the biggest farm show in the world, and it WAS HUGE! It filled about 18 huge buildings in Hannover's GIGANTIC expo center. The buildings were filled with tons of machinery producers, farm companies, and universities. Every big name on the international agriculture market was there. I had a great time looking around, and I was having a hard time keeping my jaw from dropping!!

Besides those two great adventures, I have also had the chance to go bowling with my family, see the beautiful landscapes around Penkun (the town where I am staying), bake cookies with my host sister, and do a little shopping as well. I am really, really enjoying family Klänhammer. They are really making me feel at home, and I appreciate it so much.

I put some photos on my photo blog of this past week...be sure to click on the photos link on this page to look at them!

I don't have so much time left as an IFYE, and I am going to do my best to make the last few days great! Hope all is well at home..I'll be there soon! Love ya-- Emily
